art is your human right
£10 & under, activitiesThis new exhibition of work by Bob and Roberta Smith RA at the William Morris Gallery charts Smith’s campaigns for art education. It is the first time that so many of the artist’s campaign works have been shown together, along with substantial new works. The debate about the value of the arts in current times of austerity has never been more pertinent, and this exhibition aims to provoke debate and awareness around the subject. Combining film, placards, sculpture, banners and even his slogan-covered campaigning van, the exhibition will include key works from Smith’s ‘Art Party’ movement, as well as a new film specially commissioned for the exhibition. Entitled 'Art is Your Human Right: Why can’t politics be more fun?', the film follows Smith’s campaign as an independent candidate running for election as MP against former Education Secretary Michael Gove, in his constituency of Surrey Heath.
